Each of these survivalists were chosen because they have publicly influenced survivalist culture for the greater good. Many listed here have inspired others to get prepared and improve their chances of survival. The order is arranged by the Survivalists’ audience size, influence and impact on the wilderness survival community.

1. John “Lofty” Wiseman

John Lofty Wiseman

John “Lofty” Wiseman is the author of The SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the WIld, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea and remains the seminal work on survival available today. Wiseman served in the Special Air Service Regiment for 26 years and saw active service worldwide. He was also an instructor a the Survival Training School for 22 SAS at Hereford, specializing in all aspects of survival training.
